Part of major bridge set to close soon in Mississauga

An ongoing construction project will prompt the closure of another part of a busy Mississauga bridge.
Recently, the Riverwood Conservancy announced that starting on or shortly after Aug. 1, construction crews will move onto stage three of a months-long construction project on the Burhamthorpe Road West bridge over the Credit River.
Significant renovations to the bridge were announced last year and commenced in the fall.
In a news release, the Riverwood Conservancy said the north bridge, sidewalk, and multi-use trail will reopen, but the south bridge and sidewalk will be closed to both drivers and pedestrians.
As a result, traffic will still be down to one lane in both directions, with the north bridge accommodating both eastbound and westbound traffic.
“Please follow the traffic control signage, reduce your speed in the construction zone, and plan for extra travel time as you may encounter delays getting to Riverwood,” the organization said in a news release.
When the project began, the city said lane closures would be in effect along Burnhamthorpe Road West between The Credit Woodlands/Riverwood Park Lane on the east side of the Burnhamthorpe Road bridge and Promontory Crescent on the west side of the bridge.
Technically, the $1.55-million project actually involves the rehabilitation of five Burnhamthorpe Road West bridges that span the Credit River (one eastbound, one westbound bridge), Mullet Creek (one eastbound, one westbound bridge) and Sawmill Valley Pedestrian Trail.
Riverwood says construction should be finished by the end of the year.
