Veterans will stand vigil for a moment of silence at the Cenotaph on Monday to mark Remembrance Day and honour Brampton members of the armed forces.
The City of Brampton’s Remembrance Day ceremonies will start with a sunrise service at the Meadowvale Cemetery Main Chapel, followed by a Parade and Service of Remembrance in Ken Whillans Square.
The city will also display banners featuring Brampton veterans and their stories outside of city hall.
“This year, as we gather for our parades and services, we are reminded of the immense gratitude we owe to all who have defended our freedoms and values,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.
As in previous years, the city is offering free transit rides to war veterans on Nov. 11. Veterans who wear medals, a beret, uniform or blazer on Remembrance Day, don’t pay on Brampton Transit on Remembrance Day.
Brampton Transit will operate on a regular weekday schedule but riders should be aware Brampton Transit is operating at reduced capacity due to an ongoing strike.
All city recreation facilities will have regular operating hours on Nov. 11 with no impacts to registered programming, and all Brampton recreational trails, playgrounds and parks will also be open.
City closures on Remembrance Day include all Brampton Library branches and the Brampton Animal Shelter.
