Own a key to the city or even become mayor with Brampton-Opoly board game

You could own an iconic piece of Brampton property, at least in board game form, with the city’s very own version of Monopoly available to try at local library branches.

From Chinguacousy Park and the city’s downtown to Professor’s Lake, Brampton-Opoly lets players become real estate moguls or even become mayor with this local take on an old classic.

“Buy your favourite Brampton properties, increase your rent by collecting City Blocks and trading them in for Keys to the City,” the Brampton-Opoly description reads. “Sound easy? Well, add in some traffic jams, property tax and parking fines and it gets a little more difficult and a lot more fun.”

The recognizable token pieces from the original Monopoly like the timbal and the battleship have been swapped out for a “High five, Big Smile, Heart, The Dog, Pretzel and Gym Shoe” pieces, and locations like Park Place have been swapped out for Brampton-specific locations and attractions.

“While it’s impossible to include everything, we jammed all the Brampton we could into this box,” the game description reads. “It’s full of outdoor adventures, family attractions, rich traditions and of course Chinguacousy Park – a little something for everyone.”

Brampton-Opoly was released as a limited-edition board game in 2019 with some copies still available through Walmart, but the Brampton Library has got ahold of four copies for cardholders to try free of charge.

Brampton-Opoly comes with two Dice, 12 “Keys to the City,” 28 hotels tokens, 28 property cards, and 28 action cards. The game is designed for two to six players and can take up to two hours to finish.

Games must be returned in-person to a library staff member during open hours and cardholders are responsible for all library materials borrowed to their account, and may have to pay fees for materials that are not returned.
