Over 6 kilos of cocaine, $2M in cash seized in Ontario raids: RCMP

Several raids across Ontario have led to charges for three men after Mounties in Hamilton and Niagara say they helped seize over six kilos of cocaine and $2 million in cash.

Back in October, the RCMP says an investigation led Mounties with the Hamilton-Niagara Detachment and officers with the Brantford Police Service to search five locations in southwestern Ontario.

Police say some 6.3 kilograms of cocaine with an approximate street value of $170,000 was seized when officers executed the warrants.

A staggering $2 million in Canadian cash was also found during the raids, and police say the money is believed to be made through crime.

Three men between the ages of 23 and 36 were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Insp. Vance Morgan, the officer in charge of the detachment, said getting the drugs off the street helps “minimize the threat to our communities” caused by trafficking and “organized criminal activity.”

“At its core, (drug trafficking) contributes to violence and undermines public health with increased addiction rates and overdoses,” Morgan said in a statement.

“By disrupting the operation of criminal networks, our goal is to assist our community by reducing the violence surrounding the trade of illicit substances.”

The RCMP says Bhavandeep Gill, 36, Vikram Kumar, 23, and Sandeep Kaur, 24, have all been charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused are all scheduled to make court appearances in Brantford on Dec. 19.
