With COVID-19 cases rising sharply across the province, Peel Public Health has stepped up the number of COVID-19 booster appointments for residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.
A total of 258,000 booster appointments have been added across the system (mid-December through January) for the Region.
According to Brampton mayor Patrick Brown, public health increased the system capacity by 67% between Nov. 22 and Dec. 24 in response to “ever-shifting eligibility” and the emergence of the highly contagious Omicron variant, first identified in Peel in early December.
“This has helped meet some, but not all the overwhelming demand for boosters from the Peel community,” said Brown.
“The increase is on top of priority appointments for those who still need their first and second doses, including children aged 5-to-11.”
At this time, adults 18 years or older and other select groups are eligible to receive a third or booster dose.
More information on the booster and how to book is available via Peel’s website.
