A massive drug bust occurred at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga last month as 40 kilograms of illegal cannabis worth $120,000 was seized before it could make it on board a flight to the U.K.
In a joint statement from the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency, it was revealed that on Oct. 21 an outbound baggage inspection by CBSA agents resulted in the discovery of a large amount of cannabis being smuggled out of Pearson and onto the U.K.-bound flight.
RCMP officers seized the cannabis and arrested a man in connection with the attempted smuggling.
Zubir Mahida, 21, is charged with export contrary to conditions set by the Canadian Cannabis Act. Police did not say where he is from.
Mahida was released on an undertaking and will appear in Brampton court on Nov. 28.
