Anyone who has visited the emergency department at Brampton’s Civic Hospital in the past two weeks may have been exposed to COVID-19.

This follows the announcement that an outbreak of the virus has been declared in the emergency department. The outbreak is currently being investigated by Peel Public Health and a variety of William Osler Heath System safety teams.

The hospital says anyone who has visited should self-monitor for symptoms and if they do arise, get tested for COVID-19.

So far, the investigation into the outbreak has determined the risk of patient exposure is low.

The hospital reports the emergency department remains open and is safe for those who need care.

As well, on December 2, an outbreak was declared in the hospital’s complex continuing care unit. That area remains closed to new admissions.
