Sergeant Kerry Schmidt, probably the OPP’s best-known public face as its media liaison, is cautioning motorists of highway traffic snarls tomorrow (January 27) as the Ottawa-bound anti-vaxx truck convoys are expected to cross through the west GTA, east GTA and Golden Horseshoe highways.
“The OPP is aware of potential protests that will be coming through the GTA area likely tomorrow and through to Saturday,” said Schmidt in the video posted to Twitter below.
“We’re expected vehicles – large and small – converging into the GTA from different areas,” he continuing, mentioning traffic from a number of regions, including “down from Niagara.”
“These (trucker) convoys may affect traffic flow. There could be potential disruptions with that. If you are motorists in the area, plan ahead, expect delays starting on Thursday.”
He added that the trucks “do have the right to peacefully protest” and added the OPP had been in contact with protest leaders “to ensure public safety.”
Schmidt said the OPP would be providing updates as the protests continue.
