Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is seeking witnesses to a crash in east Mississauga on Tuesday night (April 12) that seriously injured one man.

The SIU, an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police in incidents that involve serious injury or death, says it has assigned three investigators and a collision reconstructionist to the case.

Investigators say a 24-year-old man was seriously injured when the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of The Queensway and Dixie Rd.

The SIU says preliminary information suggests the following:
  • on the evening of April 12, Toronto Police officers responded to the area of Aukland Rd. and Dundas St. W. in Toronto after receiving a report of a man on foot causing a disturbance in traffic
  • officers located the male, who had by this time entered a vehicle. As the officers followed the vehicle, the driver became involved in multiple collisions. He was eventually apprehended
  • as a result of one of the collisions in the area of The Queensway and Dixie Rd. (Mississauga), a man waiting at the intersection in a vehicle sustained a serious injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
