Queen’s Park has opened a financial relief program for the victims of flooding that took place this past summer in Mississauga, Burlington and Halton Hills.

The Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program is meant for those who live in specific areas alongside creeks and rivers in the three communities affected by the flooding caused by the heavy rain on July 15 and 16. The flooding in areas adjacent to creeks and rivers caused damage to homes and businesses that are not covered by insurance.

The amount of money available will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Some municipalities have also offered flood relief programs and private insurance may have also covered some of the costs, this will affect the payout of the DRAO program.

Funds will be available to those who qualify to offset the emergency expenses that occurred and the costs to repair or replace essential property that is not covered by insurance. Flood damage caused by sewer backup is not generally eligible under the program.

The assistance applies to a primary residence and its basic contents, or to a small business, farm or not-for-profit organization.

You can follow this link to find out if you are eligible and if so, how to apply for the relief. You can also call 1-877-822-0116 or  email [email protected] for information and assistance.

You have until March, 31, 2025 to apply for assistance through the program.
