An Ontario hockey coach has been convicted of sexual assaults against a child, police in York Region say.

York Regional Police said in a news release Thursday that 40-year-old Kelvin Cheuk-Ho Lee of Whitchurch-Stouffville was convicted on Sept. 6 of two counts of sexual interference against a child under 16 for incidents that happened between 2016 and 2022.

Police said that on Feb. 9, 2022, an investigation was launched into a hockey coach after officers received information about a sex assault victim.

“Through the investigation, officers learned that the victim had been sexually assaulted while participating in private hockey lessons with the accused between 2016 and 2022, beginning when he was approximately eight years old,” the release said.

Lee was released on bail in February 2022 with conditions that he not associate with children, police said. He is currently out on bail awaiting his sentencing and is under the same conditions, officers added.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 25.

Police said Lee had coached hockey throughout Ontario “for many years” and since 2016, was a camp director with the Haliburton Hockey Haven.

Lee was also a teacher with the York Region District School Board, where he coached sports and was also the head tennis professional at the Markham Tennis Club, police said.

Police released his photo again Thursday as investigators “believe there are additional victims.”

Anyone with information was asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
