Mississauga’s growing Erin Mills neighbourhood is about to welcome one of the world’s best-known breakfast chains and signage on the outside of the soon-to-open location indicates that pancake lovers won’t have to wait long.

IHOP (yes, the famous International House of Pancakes that you have to travel to Brampton or Niagara Falls to enjoy) is opening up in the old Panera Bread location at 2575 Eglinton Ave W., just across from the Erin Mills Town Centre parking lot.

The Panera Bread location closed its doors for good about three years ago.

The expansion of IHOP into Mississauga isn’t surprising, as the brand has been growing its Canadian footprint for some time now. Last spring, the Toronto-based K2 Group of companies announced plans open at least five IHOP restaurants across southern Ontario, including one in nearby Hamilton.

IHOP also opened a location in Brampton in 2022, and other locations are in the works for Waterloo, London and Windsor.

According to an earlier news release, the Canadian expansion is part of a non-traditional development agreement with Dine Brands International, a full-service dining company that franchises IHOP and Applebee’s restaurants in the country.

The restaurant is known for serving a variety of breakfast dishes, including pancakes (think blueberry, Mexican tres leches, cupcake, New York cheesecake, strawberry banana and other varieties), waffles, eggs Benedict, omelettes, crepes, sandwiches and shredded hashbrowns.

According to signage on the outside of the store, IHOP is expected to open before the end of the year and is currently hiring.

Renovations are ongoing.
