For those who have wondered what it’s like to have breakfast in Egypt, wonder no longer – Masrawy Egyptian Kitchen has Mississauga foodies covered.
The popular restaurant, known since 2014 for its modern exploration of authentic Egyptian dishes, features a soul-pleasing breakfast and brunch menu. Whether you’re craving something savoury or sweet, you’ll find it here.
Masrawy lives by a simple motto: “Nourish your body, feed your soul.” This attitude extends to the restaurant’s beautiful interior, which blends ancient Egyptian history with a modern, comfortable atmosphere.
Its open atmosphere and vibrant interior are reminiscent of Egyptian street-style restaurants where guests sit under exposed ceilings and hanging bulbs, watching the friendly restaurant staff bustle through the main dining room as they serve delicious Egyptian street food and national dishes.
These mouthwatering dishes promise to transport your taste buds to the land of the pyramids:
On the Nile: Two hard-boiled eggs fried inside taamaya (Egyptian falafel) with sesame seeds. Served with ful, balady bread, seasoned Masrawy home fries, and an Egyptian feta mix.
The Pharaoh: Two pieces of taamaya and two sunny side up eggs. Served with ful, balady bread, seasoned Masrawy home fries, and an Egyptian feta mix.
Sweet Cleopatra: Feteer (Egyptian layered pastry) served with your choice of molasses & tahina or natural honey. Add eggs and feta mix for an additional cost.
Spiced Beef Sausage: Craving a little heat? Add the spiced beef sausage to any of your favourite dishes.
Masrawy’s breakfast and brunch is available on weekdays until 1 pm and weekends until 2 pm.
The restaurant’s drink menu includes a selection of fresh fruit juices as well as specialty coffees and teas.
For those who aren’t yet familiar with Egyptian cuisine, it differs from other types of mediterranean cuisine in several ways. Taamaya, for example, differs from falafel in that it uses fava beans instead of chickpeas, which are fried and seasoned to perfection for a taste that’s utterly addictive.
Likewise, balady bread is similar to pita bread, but is traditionally made with whole wheat flour and baked in super-hot temperatures.
Masrawy has long had a reputation as Mississauga’s best restaurant for authentic Egyptian cuisine. The diversity in its cuisine allows it to offer lots of options for all preferences, including vegan, vegetarian, and Paleo options.
The restaurant’s experience often works best in a “family style” dining where guests order several dishes and share them around the table, sampling various dishes and indulging in the multitude of flavours that Egyptian cuisine has to offer. Afterall, sharing is caring, although guests can also order a la carte.
Masrawy got its humble start in 2014, renting space in order to provide catering with its authentic and soulful Egyptian food. The quick success it found allowed Masrawy to expand operations in 2016, before finally opening its permanent restaurant location two years later at 2275 Britannia Road West.
For the best Egyptian food in Mississauga, Masrawy Egyptian Kitchen is a must-try. Get there early to try out their breakfast and brunch offerings, or enjoy the rest of their extensive menu later in the day.
The restaurant also offers online orders for pick-up, and delivery via Uber Eats, Doordash, and SkipTheDishes.
