A transformational project that will forever change one of Mississauga’s oldest communities is in the works.

The Clarkson Transit Station Area Study is a City of Mississauga-led effort in which officials are preparing a master plan for the area surrounding Clarkson GO station in order to guide future development in the southwest Mississauga community.

Having completed a draft master plan, city officials are now seeking public feedback one last time on the nearly completed document. A virtual community meeting will take place on Nov. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration is required.

Officials say years of study and public feedback have gone into the development of the master plan to date, and it will soon be completed.

The sweeping plan identifies:

  • ways to build a complete community with residential and employment uses, a main street, parks and public spaces
  • locations for new homes and appropriate buildings, heights and density around transit
  • enhancements for pedestrian, cycling, road and transit connections

For those unable to attend the public virtual meeting, a recorded presentation will be posted on the Clarkson Transit Station Area Study website following the meeting. Comments and questions from the public will be accepted there.

As part of the city’s work on the project, an air quality study was also required in order to evaluate the impacts of transportation and industry on air quality in the area.

City officials say the Clarkson Transit Station Area Study was prompted by a provincial government initiative through which transit will be transformed in communities across Ontario.

“This includes electrification of our GO train lines. In Mississauga, the Lakeshore West GO line will undergo changes to allow for electrification and 15-minute, all-day two-way service,” city officials said in an online project update.

City officials note the Region of Peel is also a partner in the Clarkson project.
