On-duty bylaw officer assaulted leads to third arrest in Caledon, police say

Police have made yet another arrest after a bylaw officer was allegedly attacked while on the job in Caledon.

It’s the third arrest by the OPP in Caledon following the assault on a Town of Caledon Municipal Law Enforcement Officer on Nov. 24 around 2 a.m., police say.

Investigators say the bylaw officer was on duty working on Fallview Circle in the Southfields Village community when they were assaulted.

The assault was allegedly carried out “by a group of individuals” while the officer was on the job.

The officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Mayor Annette Groves said the incident was the first assault on a town bylaw officer in several years.

Two people, one from Brampton and another from Caledon, were arrested last month and police said a thrid, unidentified suspect was still at large.

Now police say another Brampton resident was arrested and charged on Dec. 20 in relation to the assault.

Avhijeet Araich, 33, of Brampton, and Japdeep Brar, 26, of Caledon, were both charged with one count each of assault peace officer – cause bodily harm.

Guvinder Brar, 30, of Caledon has also been charged with obstruct peace officer, police said on Tuesday.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on Jan. 23.
