Ohio earthquake felt in parts of southern Ontario

An earthquake originating in Ohio, could be felt in parts of southern Ontario.

Just before 11 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 27), a magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook an area about 70 kilometres northeast of Cleveland Ohio, near Madison, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake was originally reported as 4.0 magnitude but the USGS updated it to 3.6. Earthquakes Canada reported it was 4.3 magnitude.

No injuries or serious damage were reported as of Monday morning.

But residents felt the quake and it shook traffic cameras, according to U.S. news reports.

And people across Lake Ontario in Niagara, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga and Toronto also reported feeling the quake on Earthquakes Canada.

“Based on initial reports, it was felt in some parts of Southern Ontario,” Instant Weather Ontario said in a tweet.

Many people also reported feeling the earthquake on Facebook post on Ontario Storm Watch.

“Felt it here in Niagara!” one person wrote.

“I felt it in Toronto,” another person said.

“I felt it!! Just about to head to sleep, alone, laying in my bed I felt the whole bed frame move, with no one else in the room. How crazy! Grimsby,” another wrote.
