Oakville’s Owen Gregg is a Toronto Blue Jay.

The non-drafted free agent middle infielder, who doesn’t turn 18 until December, has signed contract with the Major League Baseball club.

The six-foot-one, 170-pound player from Appleby College in Oakville was committed to play at Utah University.

According to Perfect Game, a website that touts itself as a “comprehensive” scouting organization, Gregg is a “quick runner” who could stick defensively at shortstop. While adjustments need to be made to his swing, the infielder has “projection remaining” in his game.

“Has very nice footwork and works around and through the ball, very balanced athletic actions, smooth and confident hands fielding the ball, can make all the throws from different angles, high level defensive actions,” said the Perfect Game report.

“Right-handed hitter, hits from a slightly open stance with an upper body rotational swing, can get into his lower half better, showed nice barrel control in the games and squared up some balls while flashing pull power, bat speed will continue to improve as he adds strength and makes some adjustments.”
