Gun and drug charges in Mississauga.

A Toronto man is facing numerous gun and drug charges after a late night traffic stop near Pearson Airport in Mississauga led to the recovery by police of a loaded gun and an amount of drugs.

Peel Regional Police said in a news release issued Tuesday that officers with the force’s Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing team investigated a vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Matheson Boulevard East and Satellite Drive at about 12:40 a.m. this past Sunday.

Police said one man was inside the car, which was parked in the lot of a complex.

“The lone occupant of the vehicle attempted to conceal a satchel while speaking to investigators,” police said.

Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the gun and drugs.

The Peel police STEP team is a specially trained squad of officers that patrols the streets in search of criminals who pose specific threats to the public, particularly threats that involve guns and other violence.
