Nov. 30 weather: Snow, squalls and cold winds across southern Ontario

We’re in for more wintery conditions with flurries expected in Toronto, Mississauga and Hamilton, and snow squalls possible in the Niagara Falls area.

It’s been a blustery work week in parts of the province with winter weather setting in and getting snowier with forecasters calling for up to 100 centimetres of snow over the weekend in areas east of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

In the GTA, Environment and Climate Change Canada says to expect chilly temperatures with a high of 1 C in the morning that will feel more like -8 C or -10 C in the morning.

You can expect westerly winds in the morning of around 30 km/h gusting to up to 50 km/h.

The overnight low for the GTA will be -3 C with a wind chill that will feel more like -10 C.

More snow is also in the forecast with a 30 per cent chance of flurries in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton and Hamilton.

But some areas like Niagara Falls, Orangeville, Newmarket and Goderich could be in for snow squalls.

Snow squall warnings were in effect for many Ontario cities and towns on Thursday including Huntsville, Manitoulin Island, Kincardine and southern Bruce County.

The short but intense burst of snowfall could cause visibility on roads to drop significantly with winds gusts up to 50 km/h.

“Travel is expected to be difficult to nearly impossible at times under these bands,” a warning posted for parts of Ontario on Thursday said of snow squalls.

“If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone,” the warning states.
