Finance experts at City Hall in Mississauga have been recognized with three prestigious awards presented by a North American group of industry peers.
The City of Mississauga recently won the trio of financial awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
That group represents public finance officials throughout both countries and seeks to advance excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 20,500 members and the communities they serve.
Mississauga received the following awards:
- Distinguished Budget Presentation Award — for its 2023-2026 Business Plan and 2023 Budget document
- Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award — for its 2021 Financial Report Highlights
- Canadian Award for Financial Reporting — for its 2021 Financial and Sustainability Report
The GFOA awards are given to municipalities that meet the highest government budgeting and financial reporting standards, the City said in a press release.
“Receiving these prestigious awards year-over-year is a testament to the City’s commitment to excellence in business planning and financial reporting,” said Shari Lichterman, Mississauga’s city manager and chief administrative officer, in the release.
City officials added that the City’s budget and financial reporting activities shape and direct how Mississauga works.
“The continued recognition from GFOA reflects decades of thoughtful municipal planning, budgeting and fiscal discipline practised by Mississauga’s council and the City’s leadership team,” they said.
