When Denis Gauthier of Wainfleet won $50,000 in the Instant Jackpot lottery, it was tough to tell who was more excited – him or his wife.

The 55-year-old millwright, who plays the lottery every week, said, “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I won,” he said. “I checked it again and showed (it to) my wife – she was jumping for joy!”

After years of playing lotteries, Gauthier marveled, “It’s my first big prize.”

He plans to put his winnings in the bank and decide what to do with it later. “I purchased a trailer back in May so this helps. I also purchased a gift for our anniversary,” he smiled.

The winning ticket was purchased at Avondale on Lincoln Street in Welland.
