Niagara-on-the-Lake is playing the picturesque role of host as government officials at both the provincial and federal levels have converged on the town for a symposium on digital trust and cybersecurity.

Hosted by Kaleed Rasheed, Ontario’s Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery, this is the third such meeting as sophisticated hacking has increased dramatically over the past few years, leaving individuals and companies susceptible to viral threats such as ransomware.

“Increasing people’s confidence and participation in our ever-evolving digital world was the central theme of the symposium,” said the release on the symposium.

“Jurisdictions showcased their work to build innovative digital solutions and highlighted new possibilities to streamline and improve public service delivery.”

The Niagara-on-the-Lake symposium was a follow-up from the second ministerial gathering in Vancouver, British Columbia in January 2023.

The first symposium on digital trust and cybersecurity was hosted in Quebec in June 2022.

“Working together is the best way to reassure Canadians that their governments are taking the lead in protecting their personal information as they navigate the digital world,” said Rasheed.

So far, government officials have agreed to continue collaborating on emerging issues like AI, cybersecurity, digital trust, and more. Discussions also focused on taking a united, careful, and measured approach to unlocking the benefits of advanced technology.
