A plan to build 16 new townhouses and detached homes in an older area of Mississauga has received conditional approval from the City of Mississauga.

The proposal, expected to be conditionally approved today (April 6) at City council, will see 12 three-storey townhouses and four two-storey detached homes built on the west side of Cawthra Rd., across the street from the Carmen Corbasson Community Centre and Mississauga Seniors Centre.

Mississauga planning staff said in a March 4 report that the development, to proceed on the half-a-hectare site (1444 to 1458 Cawthra Rd.), “represents modest intensification” that’s compatible with the neighbourhood.

Detached homes are located to the north, south and west of the development.

Approval of the development is based on several conditions identified by Mississauga and Region of Peel staff, including entering a subdivision agreement and satisfying street naming requirements.

The Lakeview Ratepayers Association (LRA), which represents residents in the area, supports the development based on a number of factors including proximity to schools, parks and MiWay public transit service.

The townhouses will be located closer to Cawthra Rd., with the detached homes set farther back.

Mississauga’s planning and development committee gave the proposal conditional approval at its March 28 meeting.
