Stanley Cup playoff action may be over for another year but Brampton is gearing up for Ontario Hockey League play as the Steelheads unveil their new logo and jersey in their new hometown.
The Steelheads announced plans to move the team from Mississauga to Brampton earlier this year with the team officially welcomed to the city at a ceremony on Tuesday.
The team unveiled the new Brampton Steelheads logo and jersey at City Hall alongside avid hockey fan and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, and Sauga, the Steelheads’ mascot.
“Hockey is Canada’s sport and welcoming the Steelheads to Brampton is a significant moment for Brampton, the larger community in Peel Region and beyond,” the city said in a release.
The Steelheads’ move ends more than 20 years of OHL action in Mississauga but brings the action back to Brampton after more than a decade following the Brampton Battalion’s departure for North Bay in 2013.
Team owners say the Steelheads’ move could be a draw for hockey fans in both cities and open a new chapter for the sport in Brampton, with the CAA Centre set to be the new home rink for the team.
The season will start with a home opener in Brampton against the Brantford Bulldogs on Sept. 27 before their first away game the next day against the Erie Otters.
The team will finish out the regular season at home on March 23 versus the Kingston Frontenacs, which doubles as the Steelheads’ annual fan appreciation game.
Season tickets are already available for the 2024/2025 season, but tickets for individual games have not yet gone on sale.
