New mississauga restaurant grand opening

A new Mississauga restaurant is preparing to celebrate its grand opening by handing out free meals to customers.

Al Chick, located at Erindale Station Road and Dundas Street West, just west of Mavis Road, has already had its soft opening, but the business is set to mark its grand opening this Saturday, Aug. 31.

The first 50 customers will receive a free meal and following that, most items on the menu will be 50 per cent off for the rest of the day. The only exception will be platters.

The restaurant normally opens at 11 a.m., but on Saturday, opening time will be 12:30 p.m. so that staff can prepare.

Al Chick owner Robina Tahir and her husband Tahir Hussain have been in the hospitality business for a number of years and previously owned another restaurant. They decided to open Al Chick in Mississauga as its closer to their Brampton home.

“Before we used to have only shawarma,” Hussain told INsauga.com.

Now we are adding the international recipes. South Asian recipes and Middle Eastern recipes all together. That’s why our tagline is …Taste the fusion.'”

Al Chick specializes in fried chicken and has plenty to offer on their menu.

“Burgers, sandwiches, shawarma, chicken on the rice, and many others. We have specials, our own recipes, which is wings. And we have done fried chicken — our own recipe,” Hussain said.

He said that they spent the last six months working to perfect their dishes.

“We are introducing a chicken bowl which will be having rice, French fries, poutine, gravy, cheese curds and our special sauce on it: Al Chick sauce,” Tahir added.

Al Chick is in the same spot where the iconic burger joint John Anderson used to be, until its closure earlier this year.

Tahir said she is “very proud” to be able to have her own restaurant in the same location. She said they looked at a number of possible spots for their new restaurant, but when they saw this location, they loved it.

The interior is now completely renovated, and both Tahir and Hussain said they’re looking forward to serving food to the local community.

“We really want that all communities come up and join us and have fun with us and try our food,” Tahir said.
