Brampton city council is expected to take another step towards allowing an e-scooter pilot program at today’s committee of council meeting.

The project would line up with a provincial mandate to allow e-scooters as well as the city’s goal of providing an ideal transportation option for making first/last mile connections to transit services at mobility hubs.

“Micromobility provides an example of how the City can rethink the more conventional, auto-centric approach and tools utilized for transportation network planning,” said officials in today’s report.

“Public access to a fleet of shared, small and environmental friendly vehicles supports the multi-modal needs for city building and a more sustainable, green, attractive, healthy and safe city.”

Councillors have sent the program back to city staff and directed them to enact necessary by-laws to permit and regulate e-scooter use. The new regulations will stipulate where the e-scooters can be used as well as safety parameters.

The next step will be to invite interested vendors to make a pitch to participate in the trial.
