A pop-up at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga planned for this weekend will be filled with the “spirit of Ramadan,” organizers say.
Souk Ramadan Market runs this Thursday through Sunday (March 24-27) on Level Two of the shopping mall, across from H&M.
The pop-up is hosted by Run the World Summit, a Canadian event series and career platform for ambitious women in business. Organizers invite the public to drop by and support local businesses while preparing for Ramadan at the same time.
Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of giving back, runs April 2 to May 2. During that time, Muslims worldwide take part in fasting, prayer, reflection and community spirit.
“Get in the spirit by supporting local businesses and stocking up on premium dates, festive decor from our various vendors and other everyday essentials that you will only find at the Souk Ramadan,” organizers say. “(It) will be hosted just before Ramadan to give you a taste of some of the best brands to keep in mind throughout the special month.”
The pop-up is an important vehicle through which to give support to businesses run by Muslim women, organizers note.
“A space such as Souk Ramadan not only makes me, a Muslim female business owner, feel welcome, but also seen,” said Sophia Noreen, who runs Also Sophia. “The world of business is difficult and where there is a hosted event providing minority business owners a space to show their products, it is not only supportive, but sets the stage for these small
businesses to be found by more customers.”
Organizers add that the pop-up will be “your one-stop-shop for all your Ramadan essentials,” including unique Ramadan gifts.
A gift-wrap service will also be available.
Children’s activities are also on tap at the four-day pop-up.
