A new dessert café in Mississauga is aiming to check the ‘getting enough Vitamin C’ and ‘satisfying your sweet tooth’ boxes simultaneously.

Mango Like Desserts, which has been a go-to spot in Kensington Market in downtown Toronto for the last few years, will be holding the grand opening for its Square One shopping centre location on Thursday (Dec. 2). The early birds will evidently be rewarded, since the café is giving away free desserts to the first 50 customers.

Under executive chef and founder Ida Su, Mango Like Desserts has strived to create more calorie-conscious takes on chilhood favourites. It states all of its desserts are made with fresh fruits. It also offers dairy-free, nut-free, gluten-free and vegan-friendly alternatives and options.

“At Mango Like Desserts, you will be able to find all kinds of mango inspired dishes from around the world, including the Thai-inspired mango sticky rice,” the café’s website reads. “Should you be a connoisseur of mangos or just a lover of mangos, this will definitely be a must-go dessert destination.”

Along with dessert categories such as mango gelato, crêpe-cake and mangonada (a Mexican-style spicy and sweet smoothie), Mango Like also has a few confectionary confections that are inspired by staples of a Canadian child’s school lunch. Examples of this include the Jos Louis Blueberry Pockets and the Passion Flakie Strawberry Pockets. (Both are available with non-dairy whipped cream.)

The Mississauga Square One location of Mango Like Desserts is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Orders from the Square One location may also be made through Ritual and Uber Eats.
