A new Turkish restaurant opens soon in Mississauga.
Mama Fatma Turkish Cuisine is slated to open at 6970 Financial Dr. at Mississauga Road and Derry Road.
The large restaurant space was previously a Swiss Chalet, and Mama Fatma has been working on opening in the spot since last spring.
While no opening date has been posted yet, the Mississauga location appears to be nearly ready.
Mama Fatma’s flagship location is in Vaughan, and there are plans to open another location in London.
The Mississauga location will serve the “ultimate Turkish breakfast” as well as lunch and dinner.
The Turkish breakfast includes everything from rich cheeses and olives to freshly baked breads and traditional Turkish tea.
The lunch and dinner menu includes several Halal meat-focused dishes such lamb shanks, bonibon (veal tenderloin wrapped in lamb), sac tava ( Turkish beef) and many types of kebabs.
There are beef and chicken wraps as well as soups and salads on the menu.
There are also many types of pides — a kind of Turkish pizza or flatbread topped with tomatoes, cheese, vegetables and meat.
“It typically consists of a boat-shaped dough filled with various ingredients and baked in an oven. One popular variation of pide is ‘Diced Meat with Mozzarella Cheese Pide,'” Mama Fatma says on Instagram.
There are vegetarian pide options such as the spinach mozzarella and feta cheese pide.
Desserts include kadayif, a buttery shredded phyllo dough pastry, with pistachio filling, drenched in syrup; irmik, a semolina sweet soaked in milk and sugar; and kunefe, a wheat and cheese spun pastry soaked in syrup.
