Those looking ahead to a winter getaway may want to check out a new route to a tropical island from Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Arajet, a Caribbean low-price airline, which started offering flights to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from Pearson last fall, has a new route.

The airline has now expanded to offer routes connecting the Punta Cana International Airport with Pearson and Montreal, according to a press release from Arajet.

This will provide Canadian travellers with direct access to the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

Prices start at $165 each way, including taxes.

The route starts on Oct. 27 of this year and will include connections to other destinations in the region such as Sao Paulo, Chile. Travellers can purchase tickets now.

Arajet CEO and founder Victor Pacheco Mendez said the airline plans to add other destinations from Punta Cana, such as Buenos Aires, Argentina, Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena, Colombia.

“Our goal is for all Arajet passengers to have as many options and destinations as possible. In Mexico or Colombia, for example, we will fly from both airports and maintain a daily bus connecting travelers by land to increase the number of possible connections,” said Pacheco Mendez.

Punta Cana Airport becomes Arajet’s third destination in the Dominican Republic. The airline also maintains regular flights at Cibao International Airport in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic and is exploring adding flights from Puerto Plata International Airport in Dominican Republic.

Arajet began operations in September 2022 from its base at Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo.

Arajet operates a new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft fleet.
