The city is inviting residents and guests to check out Brampton’s new tourist attraction and take some photos to show their civic pride.
Taking cues from cities like Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa, the City of Brampton unveiled a new sign bearing the city’s name in the southwest quadrant of Ken Whillans Square last week.
The new sign was designed to promote tourism in the city and replaces a temporary tourism sign made of styrofoam that was used at large events before being retired by the city after several years of wear and tear.
Brampton’s new sign is 40′ long and 6′ tall with a full-colour palette of LED lights that will be lit along with the City Hall clock tower to recognize days of significance.
The sign would also make for a good photo backdrop as Brampton was recently ranked one of Canada’s Top 10 most Instagrammable cities, and Experience Brampton is encouraging residents and visitors to come by and take a picture with the sign.
Photos of the sign posted online can be tagged on Instagram with @ExperienceBrampton for a chance to be featured on their social media feeds.
The project has an estimated cost of $345,000 according to a report to city council last summer to be paid for through a government grant. The sign also requires some $40,000 of taxpayer funds every year for upkeep and maintenance – or around 0.01 per cent on the City’s portion of the property tax bill – according to the report.
With some of the city’s best shops, restaurants, events and now a brand new sign at Ken Whillans Square, the downtown core is full of things to do in Brampton and is one of the best places to make lasting memories.
