A new LCBO in Mississauga.

It was only a few weeks ago many people were lamenting a strike that closed down LCBO stores across Ontario.

Now, with the labour unrest a distant memory and stores reopened, Mississauga residents in the city’s south end are celebrating a new LCBO location in Port Credit.

A post on Friday to Port Credit Life, a community group on Facebook, noted the new store at Lakeshore and Mississauga roads is now open for business. It’s located on the southwest corner of the intersection and is part of the new Brightwater development.

“You can fuel up where the gas station used to be,” wrote resident and Port Credit Life group administrator Brian Lambie on his post. “Looks great and the selection appears to be bigger and better than we’re used to in (Port Credit) … I’m not sure how many people know they are open.”

The new LCBO is one of a number of big retailers that have either already opened or will soon open as part of the new Brightwater community, which when completed will feature 3,000 new homes.

The 72-acre development is taking shape along Mississauga’s waterfront and is being completed by developer Port Credit West Village Partners. In addition to the new homes, it will also feature 300,000 sq. ft. of commercial, restaurant, retail and office space and 18 acres of green space.
