New fire station part of plan to improve emergency response times in Mississauga

Mississauga’s 22nd fire station officially opens on Saturday to serve a high-growth area in the city’s northwest corner.
Fire Station 125 will welcome City of Mississauga officials, including Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services brass, and members of the public to its grand opening taking place from noon till 3 p.m. at the station’s Tenth Line/Aquitaine Avenue location in west Meadowvale.
City councillor for the area, Martin Reid, described the new station as “the coolest fire station in the land” in a post to social media this week. In a brief video accompanying his post (see below), Reid said Mississauga’s first electric fire truck will be on hand for visitors to check out.
Reid and other city officials also noted Fire Station 125 is Mississauga’s first net-zero energy station.
That means it “combines energy efficiency and renewable energy generation to consume only as much energy as can be produced onsite through renewable sources over a year,” city officials said in an online description of the new facility.

As Mississauga continues to grow, city officials say the need for fire and other essential services also grows.
“Station 125 is a priority project because it will help serve a high-growth area identified” in the city’s plans, officials noted. “With future planned growth expected to impact essential service levels, the new fire station will help meet the needs of surrounding neighbourhoods.”
Construction of Fire Station 125 is tied to an initiative that will see six new fire stations added in Mississauga over the next decade or so.
Optimizing emergency response times is part of that plan as well. Mississauga’s goal is to get emergency response teams to their destination in four minutes or less 75 per cent of the time, city officials say.
Mississauga’s 23rd fire station, Fire Station 123, will open next year at The Collegeway and Winston Churchill Boulevard in west Erin Mills.
The other four stations slated to open in the coming years are:
- Fire Station 124 — on Cawthra Road just south of Dundas Street East (opening 2026)
- Fire Station 126 — Mavis Road and Dundas Street West
- Fire Station 127 (Lorne Park community)
- Fire Station 128 (north Lakeview community)
In addition, the city plans to renovate 17 of its 22 stations now operating. Of those, 13 of the stations are more than 30 years old and the fixes are needed to address health and safety, staffing composition and accessibility.
