A new Filipino restaurant has just opened up in Mississauga.
The restaurant, Maharlikas, opened at 833 Westlock Rd. in early April. Their name comes from the Tagalog word for “freedman” a class of noblemen in pre-colonial Luzon, the largest and northernmost island of the Philippines.
In line with their name, Maharlikas offers an upscale take on Philippine staples, such as Pancit Bihon, Crispy Pata (fried pork thigh), beef kare-kare (beef in peanut based sauce), pork bbq, and seafood.
“With 20 years of experience cooking in the finest restaurants, our chef is excited to present their vision to you and all our guests,” the restaurant said.
“We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That’s why we source our fresh ingredients from local farmers’ markets,” they continued, “No matter what time of year, you can be sure you’re eating the best of the season.”
Maharlikas is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Saturdays. Friday evenings feature a karaoke night. However, this week it’s been bump up to Apr. 6 in observance of Good Friday.
