Last week, Doug Ford announced that York University would be expanding the halls of its education facilities by opening a new School of Medicine. According to an official statement, this new facility is being built from the ground up to specifically train family doctors.

“As the first medical school in Canada focused primarily on training family doctors, this new school will make an enormous impact in the lives of people in York Region and across Ontario,” Premier Ford said in an official statement.

According to the official release, this news is coming hot off the heels of a funding incentive for the project amounting to $9-million.

According to York University President Rhonda Lenton, Ontario is seeing a growing demand for family physicians, and this new facility will hopefully, one day, match the growing requirements that are currently set by the ongoing needs of Ontarians.

“These new investments to support increased physician education in Ontario come at a critical time and mark an important milestone in York’s trajectory as an internationally recognized leader in higher education,” said Lenton in an official statement.

To help with the rapid construction of this project, The City of Vaughan has already approved the land transfer for the upcoming School of Medicine, and according to an official report released by the university, the project is aiming for a completion date in 2028.
