MiWay changes Mississauga September 2024.

Transit riders in Mississauga will soon have more bus options along a main corridor between the city’s west end and Toronto.

A new weekday express bus route that will take passengers between University of Toronto Mississauga and Kipling Bus Terminal in Toronto is being introduced this coming Monday.

It’s one of a number of service improvements to be launched on Labour Day by MiWay, the City of Mississauga’s public transit provider.

Transit officials say the new Route 126 Burnhamthorpe Express will provide service at key stops between its start and finish points, most of the stops along Burnhamthorpe Road, with one on Dundas Street.

It will run weekdays every 16-17 minutes during morning and afternoon peak periods, MiWay officials said.

“This new express route will complement the existing Route 26 Burnhamthorpe service, which will have improved weekday and weekend service frequencies,” they added.

Among the new route’s key stops:

  • Dundas Street at East Mall Crescent (Toronto)
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at The West Mall
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Ponytrail Drive
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Dixie Road
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Tomken Road
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Cawthra Road
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Central Parkway East
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Hurontario Street
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Duke of York Boulevard
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Confederation Parkway
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Mavis Road
  • Burnhamthorpe Road at Creditview Road/Central Parkway West

With the introduction of the new Route 126 Burnhamthorpe Express, Route 76 Burnhamthorpe will be cancelled due to service duplication, MiWay said.

Meanwhile, seven other bus routes will see increased service beginning Monday due to increased ridership demand.

Those routes are:

  • 5 Dixie (weekdays)
  • 26 Burnhamthorpe (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 35 Eglinton (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 42 Derry (Saturday and Sunday)
  • 43 Matheson (weekdays)
  • 44 Mississauga Road (weekdays)
  • 110 University Express (weekdays)

In addition to Route 76 Burnhamthorpe being cancelled, Route 87 Skymark is also going out of service due to service duplication, transit officials said.

“Resources from these routes will be reallocated to other routes where ridership demand is increasing and incidents of overcrowding are occurring,” MiWay added.

Riders who used Route 87 can now take 35 Eglinton to travel along Eglinton Avenue, 38 Creditview to travel along Creditview Road or 39 Britannia to travel to destinations on Britannia Road and access Meadowvale Town Centre, officials said.

In addition, schedule adjustments will be made on the following routes, MiWay added, “to improve service reliability as traffic and ridership patterns continue to evolve throughout the city”:

  • 8 Cawthra (weekdays and Saturday)
  • 9 Rathburn (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 10 Bristol (Saturday and Sunday)
  • 28 Confederation (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 44 Mississauga Road (Saturday and Sunday)
  • 46 Tenth Line (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 68 Terry Fox (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)

On Labour Day, all MiWay routes will run on a regular Sunday schedule. The same schedule will apply on Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 14.
