Developers want to turn an empty field into a new community with over 300 new living spaces including detached homes, an apartment tower and dozens of townhomes in Brampton.
The proposal could see a vacant 20-hectare lot off Clarkway Drive on Brampton’s east end transformed into a new subdivision with a total of 328 residential units including 98 single-detached homes, 60 townhouse units and a 10-storey apartment building with another 170 units.
Documents show the apartment building would house some 143 one-bedroom units and 27 three-bedroom units, and would have 106 parking spaces with 58 surface parking spots and 48 underground parking spots.
The property is currently zoned for agricultural use and would need a change to allow for the kind of density the project proposes. The lot is surrounded by vacant farmland on three sides with a few single-detached dwellings and agricultural land to the north.
A proposal was presented to the city’s planning and development committee at a public meeting last month. Next steps will see the city review public feedback on the project before making a final recommendation to Brampton City Council.
Council has been working to greenlight more housing developments in the midst of a housing crisis, including a new planned community with an elementary school and over 200 homes.
The city also wants to turn part of Mayfield Road into “a vibrant, mixed-use, walkable, and transit-supported community.”
