New Brampton bus loop at Bramalea GO Station open for transit riders

The new Bramalea GO Station bus loop is open for riders as construction at the station is nearly complete.

As one of the busiest stations on the Kitchener Line, Metrolinx has been working on major upgrades at Bramalea GO to serve more passengers to prepare for two-way, all-day service set to be introduced in coming years.

With construction now in its final phase, the new bus loop behind the station building has partially opened for GO and Brampton Transit buses.

There is also improved pedestrian and cyclist access as well as a new parking structure for commuters

Metrolinx says the new loop will make it easier for bus customers to connect to their GO Train by bringing two bus services to one location, while Züm Transit will need to continue boarding from the current stop on Steeles Avenue for now.

But when the project is complete, Züm Transit customers will also be able to enter and exit their buses from a new Züm-dedicated bus loop within the station.

There is a temporary pick-up and drop-off space available in the south parking lot off Advance Blvd. and when the project is done there will also be a new passenger area on the north side of the station.

Construction on improvements at Bramalea GO is expected to be finished this summer with work to enhance bus transit at the station currently underway.

The Steeles Ave. entrance and exit to the station is being moved to create bus-only transit lanes to separate transit from cars, boost efficiency and enhance safety.

Metrolinx says the upgraded station is also going to feature enhanced accessibility and community connections, with a new accessible station building, two pedestrian tunnels connecting to the train platforms at both the station, and upgraded elevators to bring customers to platform level.
