New bank text scam making the rounds in Mississauga and Brampton

TD bank customers should be on the lookout for another scam text making the rounds in Mississauga and Brampton.
The new text claims to be from TD Canada Trust. It reads that TD has updated its online security. As a result, the text says, customers have had their online banking access restricted pending a sign in.
The text also includes the scammer’s phone number (blacked out below).
The message above is a scam and anyone who receives one should not reply to it. TD calls these sorts of messages “smishing,” a portmanteau of short message service (SMS) and phishing.
During a previous smishing campaign in the spring TD Bank said not to provide any information to such message. Often these messages will include links to websites that request and steal personal information such as a credit/debit card number, CVV code (on the back of your credit card), ATM card number, SIN, email address, and more.
“If you suspect smishing, do not respond to the text message. You should immediately contact the financial institution or credit card company and tell them of your suspicions,” TD said at the time.
