A new centre serving children on the autism spectrum celebrates a grand opening this week.

The Hullabaloo just opened in a 7,000-square facility at 2185 North Sheridan Way in Mississauga in June, co-founder and clinical supervision Morgan Sanchez tells insauga.com

The centre celebrates a grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The ABA in Hullabaloo stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis, which is a therapy to help increase behaviours parents want to see more of (communication) and decrease maladaptive ones (challenging behaviour), according to The Hullabaloo website.

Sanchez says the therapy can help children with autism in such things as starting school or increasing verbal skills.

The centre is private but funding for autism services are covered by the province. The wait for funding can take several years and some parents choose to pay out of pocket to get help sooner, Sanchez says.

The demand for autism therapy is also high, and much-needed in Mississauga and most communities in Canada.

The Hullabaloo services are for children ages one to 14 years old. The focus is ABA but Sanchez says they hope to expand to offer other services in the future.

Local politicians are expected at the grand opening this Saturday.

The event is a free but a gently used toy, book, puzzle or game donation would be greatly appreciated.
