The ribbon has been cut at Alectra Utilities’ newest environmentally-conscious operation centre, bringing hundreds of jobs and workers to Brampton.

The utility provider opened its new state-of-the-art, 215,000 square-foot facility located at 200 Kennedy Road South in Brampton on Monday, which will serve as the consolidated operations centre serving Mississauga and Brampton.

The consolidation means some 300 Alectra employees previously operating out of facilities in both Brampton and Mississauga will now work out of the Brampton operations centre.

The massive new facility is also Gold Standard LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, incorporating a 500 KW in rooftop solar array, over 25 electric vehicle charging stations, and upgraded air systems that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by some 43 per cent above LEED Gold standards.

Members of Brampton and Peel Regional Council were in attendance for the ribbon cutting on Monday, with Mayor Patrick Brown saying the new facility “is also good news for the local businesses in the Kennedy Road area.”

“Brampton is a Green City, and together with our partners, we are dedicated to building an increasingly sustainable community and increasing our resilience to climate change,” Brown said in a release.

The provider’s newest operations centre is Alectra’s fifth LEED-certified facility along with its Vaughan, Markham, Guelph and Barrie centres. The company says it serves more than one million homes and businesses in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe area.
