Construction has started on the expansion of a playground in a Mississauga park.

The work at Lake Aquitaine Park in Meadowvale started on July 23, according to an announcement from Ward 10 Councillor Martin Reid.

The construction project will improve accessibility, increase play opportunities and provide additional seating and shade, Reid said.

New, custom adventure-focused play equipment, made of Robinia wood, will be integrated with the existing play equipment, on rubber safety surfacing, to create an adventurous play space for children of all ages and abilities.

The City of Mississauga project received funding from the Canada Community-Building Fund for the project.

The construction of the playground will be in two phases. In phase one, rubber safety surfacing will replace the existing playground surface and the site will be prepared for phase two. This work should be done by September. The existing play equipment will remain in place.

Phase two includes the expansion of the playground area, installation of adventure playground equipment, sand play area, shade structure, a seating area and new paved trail connections. This work is scheduled to be complete by May 2025, weather permitting.
