Plans are underway to bring a nearly 40-storey apartment tower close to the Brampton GO station, adding over 500 new units to the city’s housing stock.

Development applications have been filed to transform a more than half-hectare surface parking lot at 123-125 Railroad Street in Brampton into a multi-use housing development with space for retail shops.

At 39 stories tall the development would bring 522 new apartments to the city and includes plans for a four- to six-floor podium building.

But current city zoning in the area only allows for some 247 units per hectare, leading developers to ask for a bylaw amendment to green-light the increased density.

The application also includes plans for an underground parking garage with over 300 resident parking spaces, 105 visitor spaces and over 300 bicycle parking stalls.

Other features include plans for green spaces and outdoor amenities, like a new dog park.

The tower would face onto Haggert Avenue and would be located just 1 kilometre west of the Brampton Go station with a route connecting to the station running along Railroad Street.

The city has designated the area around the Brampton GO station as a Major Transit Station Area, which are intended to be developed as high-density, mixed-use neighbourhoods with a focus on transit access to local amenities, jobs, housing, and recreation opportunities.

Korsiak Urban Planning submitted the application and bylaw amendment request to the city on behalf of Syra Group Holdings, according to the documents.
