In the midst of another heat wave, nearly 7,000 homes and businesses lost power in Mississauga.

Alectra reported the outage just after 1 p.m. today (July 26) in the Churchill Meadows and Erin Mills area of Mississauga.

Approximately 6,946 homes and businesses were impacted by the outage, Alectra said in a tweet.

Crews were onsite and the estimated time for restoration is 3:30 pm.

This comes as Mississauga and much of Ontario is under a heat alert with temperatures expected to soar past 30 C today and 40 with the humidex by Friday.

Update: The cause of this outage was a pole fire which brought down a few lines, an Alectra spokesperson says.
