A Toronto man who shot a Brampton teen four times and left him for dead in a Milton field has been given a life sentence prison term.
Yesterday (Dec. 17), Ahmed Ismail, 29, was given the sentence by Justice Clayton Conlan in a Milton courtroom.
He will not be eligible for parole for 16 years. In October, Ismail pleaded guilty to the shooting that took place more than four years ago.
Ismail was initially charged with the first-degree murder and kidnapping of 16-year-old Ezekiel Agyemang from Brampton whose body was found in the area of Guelph Line and No. 10 Side Rd. in Milton on June 30, 2020.
Those charges were changed to second-degree murder after Ismail entered a guilty plea in the Brampton teen’s death.
Agyemang was a Grade 10 student at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School who loved playing basketball and wanted to become an engineer, Halton Regional Police said.
Police said he was an innocent victim and was targeted due to a dispute between the accused and one of Agyemang’s friends.
On the run after the murder, Ismail and another man were also involved in a shooting in Vancouver. He was arrested there, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was subsequently returned to Ontario where he was awaiting trial in the Agyemang murder
