The person shot to death last night (June 21) by Lake Ontario in Mississauga in what police are describing as a “targeted” double shooting has been identified as a 25-year-old Toronto man.

Peel Regional Police said in a news release early this afternoon (June 22) that Shahid Todd, 25, of Toronto, was pronounced dead at the scene in the wake of the shooting that took place just before 8:30 p.m. at Oakwood Ave. S. and Wanita Rd. in the Port Credit area of Mississauga.

The man’s body was reportedly found in very shallow water on the shoreline. First responders attempted to revive him, but efforts were not successful.

A 19-year-old woman described by investigators as an acquaintance of Todd was also shot, but she’s expected to recover from her wounds. She remains in hospital.

“Police believe this was a targeted incident and that there is no risk to the general public,” Peel police said in their news release.

Police say they have no information on a suspect or suspects at this time, and they’re appealing to the public for help.

A shooting three years ago in Mississauga covered by insauga.com involved a man of the same name as the murder victim in Wednesday night’s shooting.

In July 2020, police charged a man by the name of Shahid Todd, 22 and of Mississauga at the time, with attempted murder and numerous other charges after another man was shot in a parking lot at Mavis and Britannia Rds. in Mississauga.

The victim in that shooting survived.

Police haven’t said if the two shootings are related.

Meanwhile, last night’s murder has left the normally quiet south Mississauga community reeling and follows another shooting just a few months ago in Port Credit.

That double shooting claimed the life of one man outside the Canvas Art Bar in March.

Anyone with information on the latest incident, including any video or dashcam footage of a suspect or suspect vehicle, is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
