Suspect arrested in Mississauga murder.

A Mississauga man who police say is a relative of a woman stabbed to death over the long weekend inside a motel room in the city’s north end has been charged in her murder.

Peel Regional Police said in a news release Friday morning they arrested Waleed Osman, 25, earlier this week and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the slaying of a woman in her 50s at a Britannia Road East/Whittle Road area motel.

Police didn’t specify the relationship between the suspect and victim, saying only the man charged “is a relative of the deceased” and that “this is not considered an intimate partner violence incident.”

Homicide investigators were called to the Studio 6 motel, located just east of Hurontario Street and steps south of Highway 401, shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning as the long weekend was coming to a close.

Once at the scene, police and paramedics discovered the woman inside one of the rooms at the extended-stay motel. Peel’s 12th murder victim of 2024 had been stabbed at least once and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later Monday, police officers stood guard outside a third-floor room at the north Mississauga motel and a mobile command unit had been set up at the scene.

The area of Mississauga where the killing occurred is known for criminal activity, area residents have said.

Osman was held for a bail hearing and has made a first appearance in Brampton court, police said.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Peel police Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
