Police have laid a murder charge against an Ontario man after an elderly woman’s “suspicious” death in a small town north of Brampton this week, police say.

Investigators say the body of 76-year-old Jelena Domjanic was found on Monday by officers with the OPP after police were called to a home on Highway 10 in the town of Mono, approximately 40 kilometres north of Brampton.

Few details have been released but police say officers were called to the home for reports of a “suspicious death.” No cause of death has been released.

Police say an investigation into the death has led to the arrest of a 49-year-old male from Mono who has been charged with murder.

The OPP says Daniel Domjanic, 49, of Mono, has been arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder.

While the victim and the accused share the same surname, investigators have not said what the relationship was between the two.

The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance in Orangeville on Sept. 23 to answer the charges.
