A Brampton movie theatre was one of three evacuated last night for reports of a possible noxious substance.

Police were called to a movie theatre  at Great Lakes Drive and Bovaird Drive (SilverCity Brampton Cinemas) for a report of “an unknown substance, which was allegedly sprayed inside the premise” around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 5), Peel Regional Police told insauga.com in an email.

At least one post on social media indicated the substance was “possibly noxious” but Peel Regional Police described it as an “unknown substance.”

Police evacuated the building and there were no reports of any serious injuries.

There have been no arrests made however the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing the investigation, police said.

There were similar reports of two other theatres evacuated in the GTA.

York Regional Police were called to the Cineplex theatre near Highway 7 and Weston Road in Vaughan, around 9:30 p.m. for reports of a substance intentionally sprayed inside a theatre.

And Toronto Police were called around 10:30 p.m. for a possible “stink bomb” released in a Scarborough Town Centre movie theatre.

There were no serious injuries reported in the two other incidents. Police continue to investigate.

There is no word on what film was playing in any of the theatres, and Cineplex declined to provide more information.

A statement sent to insauga.com, Cineplex said they are “working closely with local authorities who are leading the investigation and can’t share more details at this time.”

“Our primary focus and commitment is the safety and well-being of our guests and our team. We thank our teams for helping guests evacuate safely,” the statement said.

Back in April 2016, a noxious spray was released in three Cineplex theatres around the Toronto area showing the Tamil-language film Theri. Theatres then cancelled future showings of the film.
