Milton Public Library 2023 annual report

In-person visits at Milton Public Library branches were up nearly 40 per cent in 2023 when compared to the previous year.

According to the 2023 Annual Report, there were more than half-a-million visits last year, up 39 per cent from 2022.

“This past year, we’ve made significant strides, driven by our commitment to empower the community to Read, Learn, Create, and Connect,” said Sarah Douglas-Murray, CEO and chief librarian.

“Our achievements include a service delivery and organizational review to better meet community needs. We also promoted inclusivity through the Government of Canada-supported ‘Seniors Translation for Newcomers’ project, which encouraged intergenerational learning.

“Additionally, we celebrated cultural understanding with projects like ‘101 Deweguns… A Living Hearts Legacy’ and the ‘Medicines’ mural, highlighting our Indigenous communities.”

There were 1,837 programs offered last year with a total attendance of 37,000 adults, teens and children, an increase of 35 per cent.

The Library’s mobile app has a user base just under 9,000 and saw nearly 2.5 million interactions, “demonstrating a high level of engagement and frequency of use among patrons,” according to the report.

Other positive news from the report showed an expanding subscriber base for the e-newsletter, as well as more engagement with it, a new website with several enhancements, and a sold-out talk with Academy Award winning screenwriter and actor/director Sarah Polley.

“Looking forward, we are excited about our upcoming community consultations and the Master Plan for 2025-2029,” said Douglas-Murray.

“We appreciate the dedication of our staff, board members, volunteers, and patrons, whose support is crucial for our continued success and future goals. Together, we are committed to enhancing Milton Public Library as a centre of knowledge, creativity, and community connection.”
